Empowering the Next Generation of African-Caribbean Girls in Consultancy

In a world where representation matters, initiatives that empower underrepresented demographics are crucial. The Insight Day, a collaborative effort between the Black at Baringa network and the bloss.m Scholars Programme, did just that by focusing on African-Caribbean girls and providing them with valuable insights into the consultancy field.

The bloss.m Scholars Programme is dedicated to equipping young women with skills in STEM and leadership, and the Insight Day sought to further this mission by achieving key objectives:

  • Discovering the consultancy career path and understanding various roles within it.

  • Engaging with relatable role models to learn about their journeys and potential pathways to success.

  • Exploring different roles and opportunities within consultancy to connect with personal interests.

How did it go?

The Insight Day was a resounding success, marked by informative and well-organised activities. The event featured a dynamic blend of information-sharing sessions and hands-on experiences tailored to the participants’ age group, ensuring that everyone remained engaged and motivated throughout the day.

Highlights

One of the standout moments of the day was an innovative bridge-building exercise. This activity encouraged participants to link essential soft skills—such as collaboration, communication, and prioritization—to real-world work environments. Not only was the exercise fun, but it also fostered a healthy competitive spirit among the girls, making the learning process enjoyable.

Another highlight was the panel discussion, which provided invaluable insights into the diverse pathways available in consultancy. The panelists, each with unique experiences and specializations, painted a comprehensive picture of the consultancy landscape. They reassured participants that there is no single route into this field, which was particularly empowering for those unsure of their own paths.

The day concluded with a roleplay activity that solidified the participants’ learnings, offering them practical insights into daily work scenarios. The chance to present their ideas in a corporate setting and receive feedback from industry professionals not only fostered commercial awareness but also highlighted important considerations when approaching projects.

The Insight Day not only provided participants with a clearer understanding of the consultancy field but also inspired them to pursue their aspirations with renewed confidence and enthusiasm. By empowering the next generation of African-Caribbean girls, initiatives like these are paving the way for a more inclusive and diverse future in consultancy and beyond.

Thank you to the Black at Baringa team Tami , Tyrone , Denise and David for putting on an amazing experience day.
